Position Summary

FVRLibraries is seeking a full-time Communications & Marketing Director. The Communications and Marketing Director oversees communication and marketing activities throughout the entire district and is responsible for the development and implementation of strategic marketing and communication plans and activities. This includes internal and external library communications, media relations, employee communications, events, community engagement to include building projects and information campaigns for the public.  As the Districts’ media spokesperson, this position also manages media inquiries, crisis communications and responds to Public Records Requests. 

This position reports to the Executive Director and is part of a leadership team who participate in planning, high level decision making for the whole district, and provides leadership and mentoring to employees. The position directly supervises staff within the division, provides leadership and direction, and is responsible for performance management of assigned staff.

Common job duties include the following,

  • Develop and implement short-and long-term strategic marketing and communication plans.
  • Provide marketing and brand oversight by planning, coordinating, leading work groups, participating in hands-on activities, coordinating other divisions and directing support to branches. 
  • Develop strategies and implement various advertising, information and promotional campaigns for the District.
  • Regularly conduct relevant market research, monitor trends to analyze impact of marketing and communications efforts; identify and assess key market segments, audiences and marketing channel effectiveness.
  • Oversee and assist with the creation, editing and coordination of key library publications and communications, to include annual reports, newsletters, District presentations, website content, and social media.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to graphics staff regarding the review of graphic requests, negotiate end products, mock up ideas, guide overall visual communications, and review brand interpretation.
  • Maintain media contact list and complete media relation activities, create news releases, and develop media strategies.
  • Serve as Public Records Officer for FVRL, providing responses to requests and coordinating provision of responsive materials to requestor(s). 
  • Coordinate or assist with the planning and implementation of special library events and projects.
  • Participate and contribute to Administrative Team and Board meetings. 
  • Directly oversee the work of staff within the division through the development and implementation of monitoring systems and procedures to ensure smooth operations of the marketing, graphics and communications teams.
  • Manage current division budget, making decisions and outlining planned and non-routine purchases to support the work of the division; plan and develop future budgets for the division and participate in district-wide budgeting.
  • Link operational and administrative duties to the strategic responsibilities to help the library achieve its short-term goals and long-term objectives.
  • Collaboratively manage district-wide projects and community projects; responsible for communication of a function area; attend meetings and participate in committees and/or organizations that further the library’s mission and goals.
  • Keep informed of current marketing and communication practices by attending workshops and educational programs or reading specialized literature. 

Education & Experience

To be considered, applicants must have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with major course work in business administration, public administration, communications, marketing or a related field.
  • Five years of increasingly responsible leadership experience that includes at least three years of senior level public affairs, public information or communications consulting experience.
  • At least two years supervisory experience.

Desired education:

  • Master’s degree in related field of study or equivalent.

Schedule

This position is expected to work Monday through Friday out of our Operations Center in Vancouver, WA. Occasional travel will be required to visit branches and communities throughout our district. Occasional night/weekend hours are required for activities such as monthly board meetings, library conferences and the annual board retreat.

Compensation & Benefits

Employees with experience matching the minimum education and experience requirements listed above can expect to start at $94,173, annually. The pay grade for this position spans from $94,173 to $141,260.  Employees progress through the pay grade by demonstrating successful completion of growth and development activities at set milestones over the course of 20 years. 

We have an excellent benefit package. FVRLibraries covers 90-95% of full-time employees’ health insurance premium cost and 90-100% of dental insurance premium costs.  In addition, we provide employees with Life Insurance, AD&D and Long-Term Disability Insurance at no cost to the employee.  Employees have the ability to enroll in additional, voluntary life insurance, income protection plans, flexible spending accounts and health savings accounts.

Our employees enjoy 12 paid holidays throughout the year. Full time employees accrue 8 hours of sick leave per month.  The initial vacation leave accrual is 11 hours per month; this increases over time based on years of employment. We also offer other types of paid time off for situations such as jury duty, bereavement leave, inclement weather and more.
