MISSION AND PURPOSE
WVDO is a non-profit membership organization providing professional programs and networking opportunities to its members. The role of Director of Education and Justice is to provide skills training and experiential learning opportunities for individual members and organizations connected to WVDO.
The successful candidate will be joining the organization during a time of transition and will need to be comfortable with change in general and take an active role in shaping how this role functions both now and in the future. The successful candidate can expect to refine and create the different processes and systems that help to achieve the mission and theory of change.
THEORY OF CHANGE
A theory of change defines the core strategy that an organization agrees upon for racial equity impact. Our equity frame is the understanding that the very fabric of our entire American system is built on and has profited from genocide, colonization, the theft of native lands, and the kidnapping and enslavement of African people. Our values become the tenants that shape our approach and deep care for this work. Our values then lead to our four core strategies to dismantling oppression, shifting power to People of Color, and growing the power and resources of communities of color. They are: BIPOC internal decision power, Supporting BIPOC leaders by growing their resources, Changing the ecosystem of fundraising to be more inclusive, and reducing financial barriers for BIPOC to access training and networks. All of this informs the very roots of our work so that all of our programs and outcomes have racial equity as the beginning of their conception. And finally that influences our mission that provides the outcomes and resources for the communities WVDO serves to flourish and produce. Our vision is the source of our collective hope that no one profits off of oppression and that we are actively working towards this type of world at WVDO.
We envision a future where all people work together to dismantle the systems that profit from the oppression of ourselves and others, centering the wisdom and leadership of those who are most affected by those oppressive systems.
Our values are the foundation of how we approach the work which is why they are located at the bottom of the graphic. While we hold individual values that also impact the way we organize people, money, and actions, the organizational values serve as the guiding tenets of our intention and outcomes in which we should hold ourselves accountable to. Our values are listed below. More information about each of our values can be found on our website.
