The Opportunity:

The Database Analyst and Systems Administrator is responsible for ensuring the overall health, functionality, security, confidentiality, and usability of the Foundation’s CRM and auxiliary systems and databases, integrations between the systems, and lists and reports (hereafter known as systems). The Database and Application Administrator must have a solid combination of management, planning, technical, analytical, communication, customer service, and task and project management skills to handle the duties of this position effectively and efficiently.


The Database Analyst and Systems Administrator is expected to take ownership of the systems and be a subject matter expert for the systems and the data within the systems.


This position reports to the Director of Data Management & Information Technology Services and works closely with other members of the Data Management & Information Technology Services team, and all levels of Foundation and University staff and faculty.


Essential Duties:

  • Ensure the integrity of the Foundation’s databases and data warehouses and the accurateness, security, capacity, and confidentiality of the data stored within.
  • Ensure the operability of the Foundation’s CRM platform with a focus on user’s ease of use.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with relational database management systems are required.
  • Ensure integration of the Blackbaud CRM with ancillary applications and automation capabilities.
  • Establish and enforce system processes to assure data integrity, reporting integrity and that Blackbaud is the database of record for donor and prospect relationship information.
  • Plan and coordinate application and database upgrades and patches, including testing and documentation, following the sandbox–to-production deployment model.
  • Ensure the integrity of database backups and recovery procedures.
  • Implement scalable, automated, multi-touch campaign management for new donor acquisition and existing customer campaigns.
  • Perform ongoing system administration, including maintaining user roles, security settings, workflow rules, and data integrity.
  • Contribute to cross-functional projects to address strategic business issues involving CRM.
  • Maintain data hygiene by implementing, documenting, and enforcing best practices in entering and exporting data.
  • Assist with database de-duping and clean up procedures, including data migrations and mass data uploads.
  • Engage on a frequent basis with staff and customers to gather, understand, plan, and prioritize product and business process improvements and user requests for the systems.
  • Research and make recommendations to the Director of Data Management & Information Technology Services and staff on enhancing the use and effectiveness of the systems.
  • Work with other Data Management & IT and Foundation staff to plan and carry out projects.
  • Monitor, track, and escalate troubleshooting tickets with vendors.
  • In cooperation with the IT Manager, maintain PCI and FERPA compliance.
  • Create and update business policies and best practices as needed.
  • Develop training program for systems and facilitate and lead training.
  • Develop and maintain system and user documentation.
  • Provide backup for all duties of a Data Analyst.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Secondary Functions

  • Provide secondary support on other IT issues and requests as needed.

Required Qualifications, Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three or more years of experience working with CRM systems and databases.
  • Four or more years of experience with intermediate/advanced SQL.
  • Demonstrated experience writing SQL queries, stored procedures, custom objects, workflow and validation rules, dashboards and reporting, Sandbox-to-Production processes.
  • Excellent at aggregating data, documentation, and mapping.
  • Excellent prioritization, time-management, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to critically think and problem solve.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the functions, capabilities and applications of data warehousing and business intelligence.
  • Must be reliable, positive, organized, efficient, and pay keen attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products, particularly Word, Excel, and Visio.
  • Excellent computer skills, and ability to learn and adapt quickly to new software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience with Microsoft SSMS, SSIS, and SSRS.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience working with ETL packaging, APIs, SDKs, Visual Studio and .NET 4.0 (or higher) framework.
  • Experience in higher education or non-profit environment.
  • Knowledge of tax laws pertaining to charitable giving.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Azure and/or other cloud-based infrastructures.
  • Experience working with Blackbaud CRM, Raiser's Edge and Financial Edge software.
