At The Lund Report, we tell stories and lead discussions that impact Oregonians’ everyday lives — and we are looking for an energetic, gregarious and collaborative Development Director to spearhead our growth. The Lund Report operates a website to provide important breaking and watchdog news about health care in Oregon. The nonprofit also incorporates a sister entity, the Oregon Health Forum, devoted to educating the public and advancing health policy through discussion and debate. We have plans to grow, and hiring a Development Director is a key element of our vision.

You’ll lead our efforts to develop and grow the resources necessary to keep this small but dynamic public-service organization functioning. You will work alongside a small, talented team of journalists and other professionals who are passionate about their work. Launched in 2009, and funded through subscriptions, donations and classified ads, The Lund Report is a must-read for health care professionals, academics, government officials and members of the public who follow health care.

The Oregon Health Forum provides a public venue for health care leaders, consumers, policymakers and advocates to collectively and constructively address timely health policy issues and interact with their colleagues and peers.

Overall duties:

The Development Director stays up-to-date on trends in philanthropy, including for nonprofit public-service journalism organizations and health care-focused entities. They will work with the Board of Directors to set and meet development goals, while cultivating major gifts and planned giving, including identification of prospects, solicitation and stewardship of donors.

In addition to refining donor outreach, cultivation and engagement, they will plan and execute fundraising events and campaigns, and spearhead the development of fundraising materials including emails, impact reports, presentations, and other communications. This position will also help to coordinate the organization's marketing strategy, aimed at boosting awareness and increasing subscriptions and classified ad sales among institutions of higher learning and health care-related groups across the state. This is intended to be a full-time position but we are open to creative alternatives. The Lund Report is an equal opportunity employer.

The right candidate will have:

  • at least 2 years of nonprofit development experience
  • experience executing successful fundraising campaigns and events
  • experience managing a CRM system such as Salesforce
  • a history of writing winning grant proposals
  • familiarity with key foundations and grant funding opportunities in Oregon
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • strong technology, time management and organizational skills
  • an ability to work independently and adapt to change
  • strong people skills and a passion for collaboration
  • attention to detail
  • experience tracking and managing information using Google Drive, Sheets or Excel
  • email marketing skills and familiarity with platforms such as MailChimp
  • commitment to public service

Preferred skills:

  • ability to design and create professional looking fundraising and marketing materials using programs such as Photoshop, InDesign or Illustrator
  • experience securing major gifts and cultivating corporate sponsorships and recurring donors
  • familiarity with health care
  • basic understanding of journalism ethics
  • experience in marketing
  • professional social media management

Wage and benefits: 

Initial salary will be between $60,000 to $75,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Health insurance coverage is fully paid by the employer, and the employee will also receive a monthly stipend for dental coverage and internet, as well as three weeks of paid vacation and five paid holidays.

Schedule: The schedule is somewhat flexible but should approximate typical working hours during the day. That said, we are open to creative alternatives.
