The UA Technician collects urine samples from clients. This position requires the employee to be able to observe like-gender MALE clients enrolled in outpatient SUD programs.

As a behavioral health organization, LifeWorks NW employees are required to have had their COVID 19 vaccination (or have an approved medical/religious exemption) per State of Oregon rules. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required upon hire.

Location: This position is based out of multiple LifeWorks NW's sites.

Pay/Benefits: $15.91 to $17.10 per hour. This position is 40 hours a week. Full benefits.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (These responsibilities must be able to be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.)

  • Observe and collect direct urine samples in a professional and respectful manner at multiple LifeWorks NW locations based on random scheduling.
  • Adhere strictly to procedures in handling collections, samples and information ensuring timely and accurate records of all aspects of UA labeling and forwarding.
  • Maintain client confidentiality. Maintains confidentiality of records relating to clients' treatment.
  • Order and restock urinalysis supplies as needed.
  • Assist with phone inquiries from clients and partner agencies in a professional manner maintaining client confidentiality.
  • Attend informational and clinical meetings which may include all-agency meetings, team meetings, consultation meetings with psychiatrist, staffing, intra-agency trainings, etc. as required.
  • All services must be provided in a culturally appropriate and respectful manner. Continually increase level of cultural sensitivity, awareness and competency.
  • Some evenings/weekends required
  • Completes tasks accurately within defined timeframes with minimal supervision.
  • Consistently helps cover for co-workers when needed and willingly accepts and follows through with other tasks as needed.
  • Meets standards for attendance following the department's call-in policy for any unscheduled absences.
  • Collaborates with other staff members to engage clients in following program guidelines and adhering to treatment plans.
  • Documents and maintains client records in electronic healthcare system within 24 hours of client care to ensure compliance with LifeWorks' and contractual guidelines.
  • Checks e-mail/voicemail daily the day when working responding as appropriate.
  • Coordinates services with other LifeWorks NW staff including admin staff, clinical staff, and possibly prescribers.
  • Participates in regular individual and team meetings with supervisor. Attends informational and clinical meetings which may include all staff and team meetings, consultation with other staff and required trainings.
  • Serve as back-up for other UA staff when needed; back-up other clinical staff for UA collection when requested
  • May need to travel between sites or in the community.
  • May need to work evenings and/or weekends, depending on job assignment.
  • Follows safety and health protocols as directed.
  • Participate in a culture of feedback at the agency by eliciting feedback to promote professional growth and assess work effectiveness.

REQUIREMENTS: (Equivalent education and/or experience may be substituted for qualifications. Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills and/or abilities. To perform this job successfully, the employee will possess the abilities or aptitudes to perform each task proficiently.)

  • An associate degree in behavioral sciences field or at least two years' relevant work, education, training, or experience is preferred.
  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • The candidate must be able to directly observe MALE clients submitting urine samples, in accordance with program policy.
  • If recovering from a substance abuse related disorder, must be able to demonstrate continuous sobriety under nonresidential, independent living conditions for the immediate past two years.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate boundaries.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills and maintains a cooperative working relationship with others in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively. Knowledge of treatment and service terminology and individual program policies and procedures for services.
  • Computer skills including data entry, use of mouse, ability to navigate website and use common web browser.
  • Good computer skills including a functional knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, MS Excel, and Word. Ability to master proprietary software including electronic health record system
  • Requires ability to work some evenings and/or weekends
  • Requires access to car and valid driver's license.
  • If working in a culturally focused program must have: demonstrated understanding of cultural values and norms, acculturation and generational issues within a culture; extensive knowledge and understanding of resources and appropriate support linkage available within the community; effective inner-cultural communication skills in order to advocate for culturally diverse clients.
  • Ability to perform essential functions of job without creating a direct threat to the safety of self or others.
