Position Title: Instructional Assistant - Blind/Visually Impaired Services

Reports To: Coordinator of Special Education: Blind/Visually Impaired Services
FLSA Status: Non Exempt
Bargaining Unit: Classified, OSEA
Salary: Classified Salary Schedule, Range B

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This position will serve students ranging from PreK-12th grade who experience varying degrees of vision loss. This position will implement individualized instructional and behavioral programs with students, as prepared and directed by a teacher of students with visual impairment (TSVI) according to the IFSP or IEP, and will also support specialized materials production that is specific for children who are blind or visually impaired.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum requirement of a high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Ability to read braille is preferred
3. Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired is preferred.
4. Experience working in a classroom setting or special education environment is preferred.
5. Proficiency in computer and keyboarding skills, specifically in the use of Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and Gmail.
6. May be required to travel to multiple work sites (must have access to reliable transportation)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The duties listed below are not inclusive, but characteristic of the type and level of work assigned for this position. Other duties may be assigned.
A. Successfully implement required skills (i.e., introductory braille, sighted guide techniques, technology in the vision related field, accommodations and modifications specific for students who are blind).
B. Successfully assist TSVI in implementation of specialized programs
C. Have basic knowledge of subject matter, common core, and expanded core curriculum
D. Provide instruction under general direction of the TSVI and/or classroom teacher
E. Interpret classroom related activities for vision-impaired students under direction of TSVI and/or classroom teacher
F. Prepare instructional materials under direction of TSVI, including adapting and producing materials into large print or tactile formats
G. Maintain data as needed and required by TSVI
H. Attend and participate in appropriate meetings
I. Communicate appropriately and regularly through use of email
J. Fulfill other duties as assigned by the TSVI or supervisor
