Oni Press, Inc., is the premier comic book and graphic novel publisher in Portland, Oregon. We publish creator-owned and licensed comics such as Scott Pilgrim, Letter 44, The Tea Dragon Society, A Quick & Easy Guide to They/Them Pronouns, Rick and Morty, Invader Zim, and many more. Our fast-paced editorial department is seeking an Editorial Assistant for a part-time position. Applicants must be passionate about indie comic book publishing and possess a working familiarity with the Oni Press library.
Our editorial philosophy is to help creators produce the best version possible of their work, and make sure it arrives to readers in the best manner possible, while maintaining schedule. This position supports the editorial department in administrative and entry-level editorial tasks. It interacts with all departments of the company, as well as comic creators. Excellent communication and effective organizational skills are a must. This position reports to the Editorial Director. This is an ideal position for someone currently pursuing a degree, with a strong interest in comics.
Proofread and copy edit books and marketing materials.
File applications with the copyright office and Library of Congress.
Manage filing system for all book proofs.
Update editorial task board.
Assist editors in assigned tasks, including but not limited to: generating work orders, writing copy, and working with creatives.
Assist editorial department in administrative tasks, including record keeping and note taking.
Communicate reliably, promptly, and efficiently with Oni Press staff both inside and outside the editorial department.
Ability to travel for conventions and trade events.
Familiarity and comfortability with erotic and sex education titles from Oni's Limerence Press imprint.
Ability to pass Oni Press proofreading test.
Some higher education in English preferred, but not required.
Ability to work Oni Press’s Portland offices; telecommuting is not an option for this position.
Creative, driven, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and engaged.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Apps.
This is a 2-day (16 hour) part-time position requiring in-person availability during business hours. Compensation is minimum $15 hour. Position includes PTO and 401k matching, and must begin by November 28th.
