Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team of committed professionals to help take our organization to new heights. This position is the primary writer and editor for the organization, skilled in creating compelling copy for blogs, marketing collateral, speeches, and email campaigns. The Communications Manager will take the lead on storytelling efforts for the organization, guiding, interviewing, mining for new stories, and developing the long-term vision of these efforts. The Manager will act as a brand manager, reviewing marketing collateral for all departments. This position will be responsible for supervising and supporting the Communications Coordinator and Communications Project Coordinator positions.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a brand manager, reviewing all marketing collateral to ensure it meets brand and messaging guidelines and accomplishes its goals. This includes monitoring all print and digital assets and social media platforms.
  • Expand the storytelling capacity of the communications team by developing the long-term vision of our storytelling efforts. Seek out stories and write compelling content for our blog alongside the coordinator. Conduct interviews with Habitat homebuyers and homeowners.
  • Provide copywriting support for marketing collateral.
  • Work with the Development team on two annual signature fundraising events, supporting the development of talking points for speakers and on building a social media strategy to increase attendees.
  • Supervise and support the Communications Coordinator position to develop a comprehensive social media strategy that raises awareness of Habitat among current and new audiences and generates engaging content that establishes Habitat as a local thought leader. Edit the Communications Coordinator’s blogs and social media content.
  • Supervise and support the Communications Project Coordinator position to provide excellent project management support to departments across the organization.
  • Play a supporting role with the Director of Communications’ public relations efforts as needed.
  • Make basic website edits in a WordPress content management system. Work with Website Developer for more complex web updates.
  • Work in collaboration with the Director of Communications on projecting and adhering to the Communications department budgeted expenses.
  • This position will occasionally require some evening and weekend work as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • We expect candidates with 3-5 years of writing experience and 1 year of management experience will be comfortable and successful in this role.
  • Exceptional writing skills and a firm grasp of the English language, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills; can work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Self-starter, motivated, and creative
  • Background in brand management
  • Working knowledge of web and social media best practices
  • Commitment to and respect for diversity, equity, and inclusion work. Utilize an equity lens when creating communications.
  • Be a public supporter of Habitat for Humanity & represent the organization with positivity & consistency

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Building relationships and working with BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) communities on storytelling efforts.
  • Project management software experience


Work Environment and Physical Demands

OFFICE/HYBRID

  • This position is eligible for a hybrid work environment, with the opportunity to work remotely from the Portland Metropolitan region or in the office.
  • Fast-paced, open, team-oriented, business casual office
  • This position may be eligible for remote/hybrid work based on responsibilities, performance, and access to essential work-related resources.
  • The employee will routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines
  • This is largely a sedentary role with some filing work, which requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, bend, and stand on a stool as necessary
  • This position may have occasional local travel – typically to other Habitat locations.

Schedule

  • M-F 8:30am-4:30pm. Alternative/flexible schedule considered after 6 months of employment.
  • Occasional evening/weekend work
  • Occasional overtime may be necessary.

Starting Salary Expectations:

Minimum $52,500 to range midpoint of $63,966. Placement will generally not exceed the midpoint based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. The full salary range is $52,500 to $76,125.
