Position Overview:

The Accountant is responsible for computing, classifying and recording transactions to ensure the financial records of Habitat for Humanity Portland Region’s and ReStores are accurate. They also support all aspects of finance and accounting operations for Habitat for Humanity Portland Region’s ReStores. The Accountant may also check the accuracy of calculations performed by other employees.

Responsibilities:

  • Support ReStores staff in compliance with regulations for cash, inventory maintenance and other aspects of business
  • Perform full accounting for ReStores, including transaction entry, monthly close out procedures, annual reporting, and financial audits for ReStores
  • Process all Affiliate AP invoices and general ledger transactions with Senior Accountant for the Affiliate Office
  • Cross train with Senior Account to serve as backup and help as needed
  • Assist HR Manager and HR Administrator in processing payroll
  • Calculate monthly and quarterly distributions and reimbursements for ReStores
  • Provide financial reports for ReStores as needed
  • Support VP Finance in special projects
  • Check figures, postings and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy and proper codes
  • Receive, record and deposit to the bank cash, checks and vouchers
  • Comply with federal, state and company policies, procedures and regulations
  • Compile statistical financial, accounting or auding reports and tables pertaining to such matters as cash receipts, expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, and profits and losses
  • Reconcile and report discrepancies found in records
  • Assist with organizational office needs as needed such as mail collection, order and manage credit cards
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Ability to embrace and demonstrate alignment with internal cultural values of interconnectedness, organizational communication, individual development, recognition, safety, accountability, and equity
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Demonstrated skills in problem resolution, initiative, prioritizing, implementing process enhancements, and handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency
  • Skill to graciously manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Relentless focus on detail, bolstered by organization and time management skills
  • Commitment to affordable housing development and the mission of Habitat

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics
  • Four years minimum experience in related, directly relevant and progressive, general ledger accounting for retail or non-profit organizations
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficiency with Excel and QuickBooks
  • Background in retail, inventory, and/or non-profit

Work Environment and Physical Demands

OFFICE/HYBRID

  • Human-paced, open, team-oriented, business casual office
  • This position may be eligible for remote/hybrid work based on responsibilities, performance, and access to essential work-related resources.
  • The employee will routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines
  • This is largely a sedentary role with some filing work, which requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, bend, and stand on a stool as necessary
  • This position may have occasional local travel – typically to other Habitat locations.

Schedule:

OFFICE - WEEKDAY ONLY

  • 40 hours a week, M-F 8:30am-4:30pm
  • Occasional overtime may be necessary

Starting Salary Expectations:

Minimum $25.24/hour to wage range midpoint of $30.75/hour. Placement will generally not exceed the midpoint based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. The full wage range is $25.24/hour to $36.60/hour.
