Portland Parks & Recreation is hiring people for summer Recreation Employment opportunities!


Seasonal Recreation Support Staff positions may organize, plan, and lead a variety of youth activities including art, craft, music, performance, science, games, and sports as well as support various community recreation and arts programs that serve and engage the public within the Portland Metro area. Camp Counselors organize, plan, and lead a variety of activities including art, crafts, music, performance, science, games, nature, and sports in addition to supporting the physical, social, and cognitive development of preschool and school-aged participants. Positions will be responsible for maintaining discipline and safety while monitoring youth, consistently modeling appropriate behavior, maintaining accurate program records, and performing maintenance duties as assigned. Counselor hours are weekdays Mornings, afternoon, and early evenings and are offered from 8:00am to 5:30pm. May work up to 40 hours a week. This position requires you to work outdoors.

We are looking for people to work at the following locations: Montavilla Community Center, and Arleta, Beaumont, and Faubion SUN Schools. This is an open continuous recruitment and intended for summer employment only.

These are part-time positions with flexible hours and may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Work hours can be assigned verbally and depend on enrollment levels, needs of the program, and other factors. There is no guarantee of the number of hours needed each week nor the number of hours worked from week to week. Employees in these positions serve at will.


RECREATION ASSOCIATE - COUNSELOR

Position/s: Counselor & Lead Counselor – These positions are union represented*

Recreation Associate – Counselor: Summer Day Camps

Counselor: Help with youth camps during summer months.
Locations: Montavilla Community Center, and Arleta, Beaumont, and Faubion SUN Schools. This is an open continuous recruitment and intended for summer employment only.
Shift Range: Weekday mornings and afternoons.

Lead Counselor: Help with youth camps during summer months. Participates in program leadership and provides direction to counselor staff.
Locations: Montavilla Community Center, and Arleta, Beaumont, and Faubion SUN Schools. This is an open continuous recruitment and intended for summer employment only.
Shift Range: Weekday mornings and afternoons.

Recreation Associate – Counselor: Sub Pool

Counselor Sub Pool: Counselors help with youth camps during the summer months. Able to fill in for shifts during summer months for all sites. Shifts become available with one day to one week notice. This is a great option if you are someone who will be gone many weeks at a time. Hours are not a guarantee.
Locations: Montavilla Community Center, and Arleta, Beaumont, and Faubion SUN Schools. This is an open continuous recruitment and intended for summer employment only.
Shift Range: Weekday mornings and afternoons.


Recreation Associate – Counselor: Lunch + Play Park Site

Summer Free for All Lunch + Play Counselors: Must be at least 16 years old to apply. Please see job post here.
Locations: Parks in North Portland, Northeast Portland, East Portland, Southeast Portland, Outer East Portland, Northwest Portland, and Southwest Portland
Shift Range: Monday through Friday 10am-2pm

Ages:
Counselor (Must be at least 15 years old)
Lead Counselor (Must be at least 18 years old)

Wage Range (applicants start at the entry hourly rate):
Recreation Associate – Counselor $18.00 - $21.00
Recreation Associate – Lead Counselor $20.00 - $23.00

Training Wage: The training wage is $18.00 for all counselor positions.
