The Team

The Facilities team plays a crucial role in supporting all aspects of the Oregon Humane Society. Through cross departmental communications and interactions, we ensure a safe and healthy environment for staff, volunteers, donors, the general public, and any and all vendors who find themselves on our ever expanding campus.

The Position

The facilities technician 2 is responsible for performing a wide variety of duties for the purpose of maintaining and supporting the needs of the OHS animal shelter and medical facilities, grounds, and vehicles. All duties are performed according to established safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and department guidelines. Also responsible for working as a collaborative team member with a high degree of customer orientation and attention to detail.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Use and understand processes for use of standard measuring devices, levels, saws, drills, routers, sanders and power tools in a safe and accurate manner, according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Paint interior and exterior areas of the OHS facility using prescribed colors and proper techniques as specified by product specifications. Properly prep, spackle, and repair damaged areas prior to painting. Prepare and protect non-painting areas to avoid damage, discoloration, and/or rework.
  • Inspect and perform minor repairs on buildings and equipment, including light carpentry, mechanical, and/or masonry work with the supervision and guidance of a facilities tech 3 or facilities manager.
  • Perform light replacement routines as requested.
  • Assist in performing scheduled and "as needed" inspection and preventive maintenance on tools, equipment, and vehicles to maintain operability of the tools and equipment. Accurately maintain records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests as required. Assist in completing maintenance requests. Report situations beyond expertise to facilities manager and/or operations director in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Drive OHS vehicles to run errands. Maintain and operate vehicles in a safe and responsible manner at all times and report damages or required maintenance to facilities manager immediately upon observation. Ensure that each vehicle is stocked with appropriate emergency kit supplies.
  • Assist with memorial services including helping clients select an interment space, completing and printing contracts with accurate information, assisting clients with admissions processes for payment and receipt of the animal, and engraving memorial plaques and affixing them to correct interment space or burial site.
  • Perform pressure washing routines as requested.
  • Be certified to operate a forklift. Operate a forklift safely as needed.
  • Empty, clean, and replace garbage can liners in all outdoor trash collection areas on a daily basis. Empty and refill outside scoop container with disinfectant solution.
  • Patrol parking lots and grounds throughout the OHS campus picking up litter and debris daily.
  • Will perform on call duties as requested.
  • Check and respond to e-mail and facilities ticketing system throughout the work day.
  • Perform grounds duties and routines as needed.
  • Adhere to all OHS safety, training, handling, and transportation protocols in order to insure that the shelter environment is safe for animals, the public, volunteers, and other employees. Wear required clothing, identification, and safety garments/equipment as defined by OHS policies and procedures.

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent or technical school graduate.
  • Must demonstrate skill and knowledge necessary to correctly select and safely use various applicable hand and power tools.
  • Able and willing to successfully complete Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background check including a fingerprint.
  • Able to apply methods, practices, and procedures in preventative maintenance, inspection, and repair.
  • Able to read, interpret, and follow instructions found in product specifications, correspondence, and memos.
  • Able to troubleshoot and determine root cause of equipment failure.
  • Able to observe, record, and report unsafe working conditions and to follow safety standards in working with multiple services, tools, and equipment.
  • Able to communicate verbally and in writing with team members, co-workers, and employees to obtain and provide useful information.
  • Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Able to compute rate, ratio, and percentage to interpret miscellaneous drawings and schematics.
  • Able to follow instructions and complete work assignments with a minimum amount of supervision.
  • Able to prioritize and plan effectively and complete assignments on time.
  • Able to learn quickly and retain knowledge in order to acquire additional skills and maintain technical competencies.

This position interacts and collaborates will all levels of the organization, including OHS staff, executive team members, donors, general-public, external vendors, volunteers, and supporters. Contact and communication is carried out through face-to-face, telephone and digital interactions. Excellent customer service skills are essential to success. Communication must be clear, understandable, professional and respectful in all circumstances.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed in an office and medical center/animal shelter environment.
  • Travel between the two campuses may be required.
  • Working at both campuses may be required.
  • Occasional weekend and evening work may be required.
  • Animal contact and related injuries may occur.
  • Noise exposure varies and sometimes includes uncontrolled barking and other animal vocalizations.
  • Pace of work is active and demanding, requiring a high degree of multitasking and ability to adapt to changing priorities while managing concurrent projects/tasks to completion.
