Prism Health is the only nonprofit LGBTQIA+ health center providing comprehensive primary care, behavioral healthcare, and pharmacy services in the Pacific Northwest (Oregon, Washington, and Idaho). Since opening its doors in 2017, Prism Health has become a model for culturally specific care and now serves over 1,500 patients with a wide range of services, from day-to-day primary care and pharmacy needs to targeted services like gender-affirming care and specialized population health screenings. Prism Health and Cascade AIDS Project and are excited to announce that we are hiring skilled and team oriented Certified Medical Assistants. Certified Medical Assistants (CMAs) assist health care providers in giving compassionate and effective medical care to LGBTQ+ and other patients. CMAs report to the RN Team Lead. We have several openings.
This is a full-time role working in our Portland clinic on SE Belmont Ave but may need to flex to th Prism Clinic on NE Morris. The Clinic and work hours are Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Starting pay is $26.41/hour which is equivalent to just over $54,000/year. Pay for CMAs increases with tenure and the top of the pay scale is $29.29 hour. This is a union represented position, so the compensation, benefits and conditions of work are collectively bargained.
Who You Are
- You have current CMA (AAMA) certification or EMT (NREMT) certification, plus Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- You have at least one year of experience working in a healthcare setting, ideally in primary care.
- You are a team player. You are the person on the team who pays attention to how things are going at work for others. You are known for pitching in without being asked to.
- You follow protocols and make suggestions for their improvement. You want the protocols to be as good as they can be for patients and staff.
- Ideally, you have experience working with LGBTQ+ people.
- Experience working in sexual health, e.g. STI testing and education, is a plus, as is working with people living with HIV.
- You enjoy learning how to use electronic medical records (EMR). You are adept at learning new technology.
- If you speak another language, especially Spanish, it’s a plus.
What You’ll Do
- At Prism, being a CMA is different. You will partner closely with providers, taking an active role in patient care. You will become an expert member of a primary care team.
- Serve as a liaison between patients and providers, ensuring compassionate and respectful patient care.
- Greet patients in the exam room, helping them to feel welcome and safe. Complete the intake protocol including taking vital signs, verifying current medications and taking medical history.
- Assist providers in performing clinical procedures e.g. taking vital signs and administering injections such as flu shots.
- Become an expert user of Epic, Prism’s electronic medical records.
- Help providers focus on care by ensuring exam rooms are ready, clean and stocked.
- In addition to providing primary care, you may assist in providing sexual health care and gender affirming care.
- Take charge of your own professional development. Look for ways to improve your skills and knowledge.
- Contribute to an inclusive work environment by using trauma informed principles in your interactions with patients and coworkers.
