POSITION: K-5 School Administrator
DAYS/ HOURS: This is a salaried, full-time exempt position
SALARY RANGE: $98,000 - $118,000 annually, depending on qualifications
CLOSES: April 26th at 5:00pm

POSITION SCOPE:
This is a full-time, salaried, year-round position, with some scheduled calendar breaks included based on the academic and reporting year. The Emerson School is a K-5 non-profit, public charter school. This position requires a high level of executive and administrative responsibility, including contact with the PPS District, Oregon Dept. of Education, school staff, school families, the business community, media, and the school’s Board of Directors.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The School Administrator is a full-time, administrative director position responsible for providing assurance to the school district, school staff, parents, and to the school’s Board of Directors that all aspects of the school’s charter are being met; including academic, financial, and operational standards and goals.  The position reports directly to The Emerson School Board of Directors. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Must have at least 3 years’ experience in managerial or directorship role, including budgeting, staffing, and strategic planning
2. Must have comprehensive knowledge of charter school law, district policies, and state regulations
3. Must have experience with confidential records-keeping (personnel, student, medical, etc.)
4. Must have experience with budget planning and accounting controls
5. Must have proven record of organizational management with successful results
6. Experience working with public preferred
7. Experience as spokesperson for media preferred
8. Experience in flat management structure or participatory management preferred
9. Must have experience in detailed record keeping
10. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
11. Must be able to complete first aid and CPR training
12. Must complete a criminal background check prior to employment

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Reports to The Emerson School Board of Directors monthly: including budget and financial reporting, state of the school reporting, recommendations for school policy and procedures, and implementation of mission and strategic plan.
  • Responsible for all scheduled reporting to Portland Public Schools, Oregon Dept. of Ed., The Emerson School Board, and all pertinent funding organizations.
  • Responsible to the Board of Directors for all Emerson School requirements related to its effective operations.
  • Responsible for evaluating the performance of the Instructional Coach and the Office Manager, (and any other administrative or contract employees), and for overseeing evaluation of teaching staff and educational assistants.
  • Prepares the annual school budget for Board approval and distributes as appropriate to all required reporting organizations.
  • Ensures all financial records, including accounts payable and receivable, are current and available for review within 48 hours of Board requests.
  • Responsible for overseeing and furthering staff wide work on racial equity, growing the welcoming and inclusive community for families and students of color and other historically underserved populations.
  • Responsible for ensuring all classroom and non-classroom regulatory training, certification, background checks and other critical activities are current for staff, facility, contractors, and volunteers.
  • Acts as central contact for Board of Directors, parents, Portland Public Schools, landlord, tenants, insurance agents, building services, fire and safety services, media, public relations, and community organizations.
  • Acts as central contact for designated school parent groups, including FES (Friends of The Emerson School).
  • Partners with Instructional Coach to ensure teacher evaluative teams, annual performance evaluations, teacher professional development, employment issues, and teacher compensation and employment records are current and reviewed/ maintained in a timely and correct manner.
  • Responsible for health and safety of all occupants of building at all times. 
  • Oversees fundraising strategies and goals, participates actively in fundraising.
  • Manages the recruitment, hiring, disciplinary action, termination, compensation, benefits, purchasing, reimbursement, inventory, position descriptions, policy and procedures, and personnel records of all on-site personnel and assets.

REQUIRED CREDENTIAL
Must be credentialed through TSPC either by Charter School Administrator Registry (conditional, must be obtained immediately after employment) or Oregon Administrator’s License

REQUIRED EDUCATION
Master’s Degree preferred; Bachelor's degree required

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
A minimum of three years of experience in non-profit management, directorship, or school administration is required.
