This Position is the Executive Assistant to the Director and their executive(s) of the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA).

The Executive Assistant enhances the effectiveness of the Directors, the executive team, and secondary support for the Board of Agriculture by coordinating logistics, scheduling, and handling confidential communications. The Position provides a vital coordinating link between the Directors in carrying out the Agency's goals and objectives. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the executive's day-to-day operations are run efficiently and effectively.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide executive assistance to ODA’s Director, Deputy Director(s), and Director’s Office.

  • Manage and optimize the Directors' calendar, scheduling, and travel arrangements.

  • Prepare documents, manage records, and maintain organized files.

  • Engage in strategic planning and support legislative actions and Board of Agriculture activities.

  • Enhance agency-wide employee engagement through professional development and recognition programs.

  • Serve as a point of contact for agency staff, external partners, and public inquiries.

  • Handle sensitive information with the highest level of confidentiality and diplomacy.

 

The Director’s Office consists of the Director of Agriculture, a political appointee of the Governor of Oregon responsible for all the Agency's functions and duties. The Deputy Director and Assistant Director oversee the Agency's programmatic and administrative units. The Communication Director and three Senior Policy Advisors carry out the Agency's communication, legislative, and executive functions within the Director's Office.

The ODA has approximately 450 positions. ODA employees are predominantly based in the Salem and Wilsonville office locations, with various field offices across the State. The Director's Office is the executive office of the Agency that regularly interacts with elected officials, similar agency leaders, special interest groups, and staff.
