Financial Beginnings Oregon (FBOR) is a 501c3 nonprofit working to empower Oregonians to take control of their financial futures by providing free, unbiased financial education programs. As an affiliate of Financial Beginnings USA, we partner with schools, community-based organizations and government agencies across the state to bring our financial literacy classes to the communities they serve. Financial Beginnings Oregon is a volunteer powered organization. Our team recruits and trains a pool of talented volunteers, often from the financial sector, that bring our programs to life throughout the state.

As an organization, we are committed to an Oregon that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. We focus on reaching historically underserved communities with our financial education programs, with a particular focus on reaching low-income communities.

General Position Summary

The Education and Training Manager (ETM) has the critically important role of ensuring that our programs are impactful, relevant and scalable. In pursuit of those goals, there are three main workstreams that the ETM will oversee. 1) Our trained pool of volunteers are responsible for implementing our programs in the community. The ETM will ensure that these volunteers are trained and supported to lead quality programming for our partners. 2) Our programs are designed by Financial Beginnings USA. The ETM will be responsible for assisting volunteers and community partners create adaptations that will compliment our programs so that they are relevant for diverse stakeholders, economically vulnerable adults and underrepresented communities. 3) The ETM will lead the implementation of Financial Beginnings’ program evaluations with an eye towards capturing impact and learnings that can influence program enhancements.

Program Manager, Program & Volunteer Coordinator, Executive Director, FBUSA & Affiliates, External Partners (schools, community-based organizations & volunteers).

Essential Job Responsibilities

Strategy and Vision

  • Support annual strategic planning and goal setting.
  • Identify and develop educational and training content to increase the impact of our work.
  • Take the lead on adapting the approach and program enhancements to better serve low income and vulnerable communities.

Community Partner Stewardship and Growth

  • Take the lead on ensuring our financial education programs and supplemental materials meet community partner and participant needs.
  • Ensure that our resources and materials are context appropriate and relevant for a diverse array of stakeholders, from rural to urban communities, across the state. 
  • Identify and lead initiatives to expand access to bi-lingual programs through creating supporting mechanisms and materials for volunteers and program partners.

Volunteer Preparation, Placement and Stewardship

  • Lead and enhance volunteer orientations for FBOR.
  • Develop and lead new training for volunteers to increase the impact of our work with vulnerable populations.
  • Develop and lead training to operationalize new programs created by Financial Beginnings USA.
  • Support strategic volunteer placement.
  • Develop new systems to track volunteer readiness for higher touch partners.
  • Develop and lead special events and workshops for volunteers from our corporate sponsors.
  • Provide on-going support and mentorship for volunteers.

Influence and Representation

  • Strive to meet volunteers and community organizations where they are - be flexible, accommodating and prompt.
  • Represent FBOR professionally in all external communications and interactions.
  • Understand and communicate our mission, values and programs passionately and effectively.
  • Identify, develop and participate in external-facing events and working groups that broaden awareness and demand for our programs.
  • Identify and participate in professional events, associations and working groups in the financial literacy and empowerment sector.

Operations and Administration

  • Ensure program files are maintained, orderly and accessible to the entire team.
  • Support organizational administrative needs as necessary.
  • Lead improvements to streamline volunteer program workflows 
  • Enhance volunteer tracking systems.

Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning

  • Lead implementation of evaluation tools, including: surveys, questionnaires and focus groups.
  • Ensure lessons are learned,documented, disseminated and remain accessible.
  • In partnership with the Program Director, assist in creating materials that communicate our approach, impact and value for all Oregonians.

The Education and Training Manager will be a team player that exudes a passion for financial literacy, thrives at facilitating workshops and diligently works to bring a vision to fruition. The ETM will have a background in education, have experience leading workshops and is energized by the prospect of creating something new.

Qualifications

  • Background in adult education preferred.
  • Background in developing and leading training and professional development events.
  • Excellent facilitation skills - both in-person and virtual
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow direction and meet deadlines
  • Action oriented, able to work independently and cooperatively with team members
  • Able to balance competing priorities and be accountable to goals
  • Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing, with strong diplomacy skills
  • Flexibility is critical, with demonstrated willingness to adapt to the needs of the team and moment.
  • Enthusiastic, personable and responsive with an ability to build relationships and trust quickly with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

The Education & Training Manager must occasionally lift up 30 lbs. and will be required to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach. The position also involves sitting at a computer for extended periods of time. Reasonable accommodations can be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Salary and Benefits

  • $46,000-59,000 per year, DOE
  • Annual bonus potential
