General Function:
Under the general supervision of the Virtual and Innovation Coordinator II, the Tax and Financial Services Coordinator - Virtual will be responsible for implementing and delivering direct tax and financial services for the Virtual volunteer tax preparation site. The Tax and Financial Services Coordinator - Virtual will prepare and quality review tax returns, assist seasonal staffing with administrative issues, assist in embedding economic empowerment initiatives at the volunteer tax site, assist ITIN households as a Certified Acceptance Agent, and overall ensure robust and accurate tax services are provided to low and moderate income families, especially those belonging to immigrant, refugee, and limited English proficiency households.
Beyond the tax season this position will organize and develop virtual tax preparation systems that can be taken throughout the state. Our preferred candidate will have experience with tax preparation, volunteer management, customer service, and have strong technical skills with software and be very computer literate. This position requires understanding and ability to work effectively with various software programs and provide troubleshooting and assessment of technical issues with volunteers.
MFS CASH is structured to ensure that all levels of staff are expected to provide support to other tax sites and other team members when needed to ensure the ongoing success of the program and services provided.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and Quality Review tax returns for the Virtual tax site year round
- Act as Site Coordinator under the supervision of the Virtual Services and Innovation Coordinator II Including coordinating staff and volunteers
- Facilitate ITIN services as a Certified Acceptance Agent
- Implement financial services activities at the tax sites such as assisting with prepaid debit cards enrollment, encouraging savings programs, and beyond
- Serve on Operations Committee and prepare materials, facilities and equipment for the Virtual site and support all volunteer tax sites as needed
- Coordinate and manage collection of client stories
- Assisting with device onboarding for virtual volunteers
- Coordinate hybrid “Scan and Go” model across the program
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Demonstrated strong proficiency with technology including coaching others to use technology effectively and troubleshooting technical problems.
- Experience working in a team in high stress direct service environments that requires flexibility and strong customer service skills
- Ability to effectively and proactively problem-solve and resolve conflict
- Experience with tax preparation, as a Licensed Tax Consultant or experience as a IRS certified volunteer tax preparer
- Demonstrated understanding of the federal and Oregon tax codes and how they affect lower income populations
- Demonstrated volunteer management experience with a large number of volunteers.
- Proven strong interpersonal, relationship-building and strong leadership skills; has a results-oriented approach with a winning attitude
- Demonstrated ability to motivate a team to achieve weekly goals; ability to stay calm during high-stress times, and able to work well in a fast-paced remote work environment.

- Proven ability to use TaxSlayer or relevant tax preparation software.

Personal transportation allowing for travel within the Portland Metropolitan area in a timely manner. If driving a personal vehicle must maintain a valid driver license for the state of residency, personal auto liability insurance coverage and a driving record permitting coverage under the agency auto liability policy.
MFS requires all employees and volunteers to complete a criminal background check. We review the results of all background checks individually and consider all of the circumstances of any issues that arise in a background check during the hiring process.
Work Environment:
The position will have an altering schedule based around the needs to be support services during the 2025 tax season.
From January through the end of April of 2025, the position will be working in person at the Plaza office, Tuesdays through Saturdays each week.
From May to December of 2025, the position will be working in a hybrid capacity with a work schedule of 3 days per week working in person at the Plaza office and 2 days per week working on remotely.
Position requires ability to sit for extended periods as well as stand occasionally. Position requires use of computer, telephone, fax machine, copier and may require accessing locations by use of stairs. Position will be working in an office environment which is often busy and has elevated levels of noise.
