NAYA Family Center seeks a community oriented, culturally connected social services or financial counseling professional to be our SW Washington Financial Wellness Coordinator. This role will lead the launch of NAYA's financial wellness programs in Clark County, WA. The role will forge strong connections with the Native American, Latino/an and Black communities in SW Washington, with a strong emphasis on reaching Native people.

This is a full-time role with work hours of 9 am to 6 pm with a one hour unpaid lunch. The primary work location is NAYA’s SW Washington office at 3101 E. Fourth Plain Blvd, Vancouver, WA but the outreach responsibilities of this role will require significant work in the community and outside of the office. 

As is typical of community development roles, attending occasional evening meetings and weekend events is required. Travel to NAYA’s main campus in Portland will be required several times per month. This role reports to Annessa Hartman, Community Wealth Building Manager. 

Starting pay is $60,000 to $65,000/year.

Who You Are

  • You are a social services or financial counseling professional with experience counseling clients. It is a bonus if you have helped clients with debt management, credit management, budgeting, savings or homeownership preparedness.
  • You have lived or work experience in the Native, Latino/a or Black communities in Clark County, WA and ideally, you have connections to organizations that serve these communities.
  • Ideally, you have facilitated workshops or classes.
  • You are an excellent coach. You are adept at providing positive as well constructive suggestions and empowering options. 
  • You aren’t afraid to have difficult conversations and are able to navigate them with kindness, respect, and grace. 
  • Ideally, you have experience managing a case load of clients. You are detail oriented, and you have superb follow up.
  • You know that you can’t do community work without getting out of your office. It’s easy and enjoyable to attend all the community events and celebrations. You know that showing up and authentically connecting with others is essential to your work. 
  • You are a self-starter. You always have a plan, and you always meet your deadlines. 
  • You don’t mind cold calling to establish connections with potential clients and partners.
  • You are self aware. You listen well and center others. You are generally OK making mistakes and taking responsibility for them.
  • You have had strong partnerships with your previous supervisors. You know the importance of keeping your supervisor informed of your progress and your challenges. You don’t go it alone.
  • You don’t hesitate to roll up your sleeves and pitch in, even when it’s not your job.

What You’ll Do

  • Establish NAYA’s financial wellness and homeownership programming in Clark County, WA.
  • Take training with the First Nations Development Institute and OWEESTA to learn their models for financial wellness training. 
  • Connect with Native American, Latino/a and Black communities in SW Washington to recruit program participants, with a strong emphasis on reaching Native people. Develop an outreach strategy to promote program enrollment and visibility.
  • Facilitate monthly in person financial wellness classes from a culturally specific lens, incorporating relevant examples and ideas from Native culture.
  • Provide individual financial wellness coaching.
  • Provide individual homeownership coaching that is focused on financial goals towards homeownership.
  • Forge new connections with community based organizations, nonprofits, and the programs within the City of Vancouver and Clark County that foster financial wellness.
  • Establish strong connections to Native people and Native communities in Clark County, including the Cowlitz and Chinook Tribes.
  • Integrate culturally relevant practices into all aspects of your program.
  • Partner with Community Foundation for Southwest Washington and other local organizations to reach shared goals.
