Job Overview:

Early Kindergarten Transition (EKT) is a two-week summer program at SUN schools that offers children and families a jump-start into a successful kindergarten year. The program focuses on academics, play, arts and music, exploration and developing friendships in an inclusive and joyful classroom. The program has two components: a two week program for incoming kindergarten students, and two classes offering family education sessions that are required. EKT partners with SUN and Multnomah County to offer the program. The role of EKT teacher plans and leads all aspects of classroom instruction, communicates with families, provides direction for the EA’s. The EKT teacher must be a kindergarten teacher at the school of the program or within the District.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Plan, preps, and teaches EKT program instruction based on Oregon's Early Learning Standards
  • Guides/supports EA’s in daily work
  • Collaborates with SUN and parent educators
  • Supports in recruitment and family communication
  • Create a welcoming, engaging and joyful kindergarten transition program
  • Collect and report data

Compensation:

$ 30 an hour

Work Schedule:

EKT Program hours: 9:00am-1:00pm Mondays-Thursdays from July 21st- July 31st.

  • Attend all on-boarding and training prior to the program.
  • Paid preparation and training after school/evenings prior to the start of the program. ( Work remote when approved by Site Manager)
  • Attend EKT family orientation the week prior to the program.

Qualifications


Qualifications

  • Current Oregon Teacher Certification
  • Experience in teaching children and creating lesson plans
  • Desire and ability to work with children and ensure an enriching, positive, safe setting
  • An independent, self-motivated, creative and resourceful individual
  • Excellent organization skills and interpersonal communication skills
  • A cooperative manner and the ability to work as part of a team
  • A willingness to ask questions for clarification and job completion
  • Demonstrate excitement in working with children.
  • Demonstrate respect and professionalism in all interactions
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm about working in an inclusive environment which serves children of all backgrounds and abilities
  • Experience working with groups of elementary-age children and strong behavior management is a MUST
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be legally able to work in the United States (documentation will be required for I-9 form)
  • Spanish speaking skills are a plus
  • Basic English proficiency is required (must be able to read, write and speak English)
  • All employees must submit a criminal background check

Other Requirements:

Personal transportation allowing for travel within the Portland Metropolitan area in a timely manner. If driving a personal vehicle must maintain a valid driver license for the state of residency, personal auto liability insurance coverage and a driving record permitting coverage under the agency auto liability policy.

MFS requires all employees and volunteers to complete a criminal background check which includes a fingerprint background check. We review the results of all background checks individually and consider all of the circumstances of any issues that arise in a background check during the hiring process.

Work Environment:

Work is normally performed in a collaborative classroom/office environment and/or at other locations as deemed necessary. Position requires regular use of computer, telephone, fax machine, scanner, copier and may require accessing locations by use of stairs. Some bending and lifting could be necessary. Must be able to comfortably lift and carry up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
