Job Summary and Responsibilities:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of invoices and expenses to ensure payments, posting cash and check donations to general ledger, and entry of all miscellaneous accounts receivable transactions, including non-cash donation proceeds. This role is also responsible for preparing annual 1099 taxes, accounts payable audit data and other various accounting duties, and provides backup for accounts payable and grant payments.
Accounts Payable (65%)
- Review invoices for accuracy and appropriate documentation.
- Add invoices to Accounts Payable folder in record keeping system, assign general ledger codes, determine required approver(s), and send workflow routing for approval.
- Monitor workflow progress and enter approved invoices into accounting system.
- Process credit card expenses and out-of-pocket expense reimbursements.
- Process new contracts and send out tax identification verification with W-9’s.
- Maintain electronic files for contracts and track contractors’ YTD contract balances.
- Initiate and prepare AP check payment workflows for processing Accounts Payable on a weekly basis.
- Prepare AP audit files as needed for annual audit cycles.
- Prepare annual form 1099’s and process through the federal and state agencies.
Contribution and Accounts Receivable (25%)
- Post cash and check donations to general ledger.
- Enter all miscellaneous accounts receivable transactions including non-cash donation proceeds.
Additional Duties (10%)
- Provide back-up support for processing grants and scholarship payments.
- Provide back-up support for preparing daily checking account deposits and send to bank.
- Open daily mail with another staff person and accurately categorize and log checks into a spreadsheet.
- Provide the support for Grant and Accounts Payable check delivery.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Minimum four years’ related experience, including two years’ experience with analysis and reporting using Excel and financial systems; and a Bachelor’s degree in accounting; or an equivalent combination of work experience and education.
- Nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
- Solid knowledge of accounting theory combined with accounting processing experience.
- Knowledge of higher-level analysis and projection tools used with accounting processes.

Working Conditions & Safety:
- Comfortable office environment.
- Physical effort includes keying/typing for several hours at a time, and the ability to sit or stand for several hours at a time. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Report all injuries, illnesses, or accidents to your supervisor as soon as possible and within 24 hours.
Remote Work:
This position will have the opportunity to work remotely one day per week when doing so aligns with the responsibilities of the position. During the initial training period, this position may work more frequently in the office.

- Hiring Range: $30.76 to $34.35 per hour, depending on experience. ($60,000 to $67,000 when annualized based on a 37.5 hour workweek)
